This Is Only a Test is the sixth studio album by the Chicago-based pop punk band the Smoking Popes, released March 15, 2011 through Asian Man Records. It was produced by Matt Allison and is their first album with drummer Neil Hennessy, who joined the band in 2008. It is a concept album, with all of the songs written from the perspective of a single teenage boy dealing with the growing pains of adolescence

For This Is Only a Test, Smoking Popes' second studio album since reuniting in 2005 and sixth overall, the band have decided to eschew all that for an album dedicated to the exuberance of youth. This is a concept album written from the perspective of a teenage boy. Adolescence is all over this album, right down to the school bus on the cover. Lyrically, the album hits a lot the main points of one's high school years (getting mono; trying to make the team; the anxiety that arrives before leaving for college). In taking a youthful vantage point, a few of the songs end up sounding more.

This Is a Test is a pure delight. This is the third time I have produced it. It was such a hit, we have been asked to perform it at our fall teachers' opening day workshop. The levels of humor and subtle shifts in time and place make this play entertaining and fun to produce.

Aim mortar at Overlook. Aim mortar (after firing it the first time). Karima wishes to test Overlook's new shield by having the Vault Hunters fire a Hyperion mortar at the town. The mortar is at Aggregate Acquisition, Hyperion base with a commanding view of the valley and Overlook in its reach.
