Survival is the eleventh studio album by Bob Marley & The Wailers released in 1979. Survival is an album with an outwardly militant theme. Some critics speculate that this was due in part to criticism Marley received for the laid-back, ganja-soaked atmosphere of his previous release, "Kaya", which seemed to sidetrack the urgency of his message. In the song "Africa Unite", Marley proclaims Pan-African solidarity. The song "Zimbabwe" is a hymn dedicated to later-independent Rhodesia

Most of Bob Marley's early music was recorded with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, who together with Marley were the most prominent members of The Wailers. In 1972, The Wailers had their first hit outside Jamaica when Johnny Nash covered their song "Stir It Up", which became a . hit. The 1973 album Catch a Fire was released worldwide, and sold well. It was followed by Burnin', which included the song "I Shot the Sheriff", of which a cover version by Eric Clapton became a hit in 1974.

Uprising was the last album by Bob Marley to be released in his lifetime. The day it reached the shops on 1 June 1980, Marley and the Wailers opened for Fleetwood Mac at the 69,000-capacity Reitstadion in Munich. It was the second night of the Uprising tour, a European trek which took them to some of the biggest venues on the continent and to several countries they hadn’t played before, including Switzerland, Ireland, Scotland and Italy

Notes

"This two-disc, 45-track set cobbles together Marley sides recorded between 1968 and 1972, most notably with producers Leslie Kong and Lee “Scratch” Perry, although there are also some demos here that were made for Johnny Nash and Danny Sims, and while the recording quality isn’t as crisp and polished as Marley’s later and more famous work for Island Records, there’s no denying the raw energy and power of these earlier sides (review taken from allmusic.com)" Total Duration 02:08:47
