It's astonishing to think that as King Crimson was recording their monumental, groundbreaking debut album, Gordon Haskell - who would join the Crimson lineup in 1970 - was cutting this sappy, orchestrated piffle. The music on his debut album is pretty enough, but otherwise undistinguished. Haskell couldn't decide whether he was trying to be Justin Hayward or Jacques Brel, neither of whom was he suited to emulate. Haskell has a strangely breathy, un-nasal voice, oddly reminiscent of fellow King Crimson alumnus Pete Sinfield on his solo album Still

Discipline is the eighth studio album by English progressive rock band King Crimson, released on 22 September 1981 by . Records in the United Kingdom and by Warner Bros. Records in the United States. This album was King Crimson's first album following a seven-year hiatus. Only founder Robert Fripp and later addition Bill Bruford remained from previous incarnations. The Sheltering Sky" is named after and partially inspired by the 1949 novel of the same name by Paul Bowles. Bowles is often associated with the Beat generation, which would be an inspiration for King Crimson's subsequent studio album Beat. Later versions of Discipline featured this design by Steve Ball. Live versions of "Elephant Talk", "Indiscipline", and "Thela Hun Ginjeet" included partial vocal improvisation during spoken-word parts.

STATEMENT BY GORDON HASKELL for 2019. I believe it is time for a new beginning. The birth of a new world. Our children are the future and a song filled with joy and innocence is as good as any place for a child to start. Happy children stand a chance of becoming happy adults. I read it on the back of a bus shelter once. I am passionate about every word in the book, every word in the song. Because it goes deep only if you want it to. But all that book and film are the stuff of my dreams.
