With WE ALL HAVE A PLAN, Slicker seems to take a much more pop direction with the vocals, although it's very IDM-influenced pop. "God Bless This Mess, This Test We Pass" has a moody underpinning with the mournful horn, while the hip-hop of "When The Dog Goes Lame" is sparse. The electronic R&B of "Knock Me Down Girl" seems to have beamed from outer space, but it's the instrumental "Call Up All The Relief Now" that really rockets past everything else

A shame about Laswell's penchant for annoying, slightly tacky sounding synths, but the album is a feast of Robbie Shakespeare's driving, speaker-shaking bass figures and Sly Dunbar's updated, often programmed take on his Seventies template sounds never less than fresh.

The man behind Hefty Records, and the aliases Bill Ding and Slicker, John Hughes III, returns after a lengthy break to the world of recorded music.
