Talk about Herbie Hancock - Lite Me Up

One of his most unique dance albums, not really comparable with any other in his catalog, especially not Future Shock or Sound-System. You've got some pop rock tinges on Lite Me Up, cheesy lyrics and not so serious, yet still groovy, tracks like The Bomb and Motor Mouth, as well as low down, super smooth, post disco tracks with some jazz-funk tendencies on Gettin' To The Good Part and The Fun Tracks. Can't Hide Your Love is the closest thing to a straight up boogie track on here I think, but it's got Herbie's vocals with no vocoder/talk box, which would be fine except that he really tries to match the energy of the instrumentation towards the end too much and just can't hit those notes. Gettin' To The Good Part is the track on here for me though, Herbie really balances his off-kilter synthesized vocals, as to let the other singers and the instrumentation take more of the spotlight. So many of his tracks could be slightly editted to make them more than hot enough for today's dance floor.

The presence of Rod Temperton here is strongly felt! Great record...
