The Horrors - Strange House B-Sides flac album

Strange House is the debut studio album by English rock band the Horrors, released on 5 March 2007 by Loog Records. The band announced the title via a MySpace bulletin on 11 January 2007 The album consists mostly of previously released material, although several of these tracks were re-recorded or remixed.

With their debut album, Strange House, they push their sound forward, distill it to its rawest essence, and give it a few funhouse mirror twists and turns for good measure. Almost half of the songs on the album already appeared on previous Horrors releases, but the ever-so-slightly cleaner production here gives more definition to their black-on-black sound. The band kicks off Strange House by revisiting their cover of Screaming Lord Sutch's "Jack the Ripper," which begins at a zombie-slow pace, then suddenly speeds up halfway through, transforming into a hurtling roller coaster.

The Horrors are one of those bands that are frequently described as a ‘victory of style over substance’, and have attracted much hostility from the public for what they wear (singer Faris Rotter had his nose broken by a delightful hooligan for apparently ‘looking like a girl’). Now if I was a NME journalist, or for that matter most other music critic, I would continue to blister on about their clothes and give little insight to their music, but I’d quite like to focus on the music, thank you.
