Inquisition is simply on a whole other level here. Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm features a nebulosity and massive sonic scope rivaled by few and matched by virtually none. The stately, elephantine inclination the waves of distortion exhibit is simultaneously overwhelming and mesmerizing. Knee-jerk reaction is to group Inquisition with Immortal due to Dagon's croaky inflection, but the closest comparison is actually Limbonic Art's The Ultimate Death Worship, which features similar caustic ambiance and vortex-like delivery. As someone who doesn’t spend too much time listening to black metal, I’ve never listened to Inquisition before I heard their 2010 album, Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm. I had certainly heard of them, but I just never got around to checking them out.

After an extremely long wait and numerous delays, Inquisition finally released the follow up to 2007's Nefarious Dismal Orations, Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm, and to my delight they do not disappoint with this record with their music and the bombastic album and song titles. From the opening track, Dagon's trademark croaking style of vocals is instantly recognisable, blending into their unique brand of black metal (mostly because of Dagon's different approach to black metal vocals).
