Marlin Greene's album is an excellent offering from that milieu. There is a "spiritual" bent to several of his songs, including the obvious "Good Christian Cowboy," but the extended metaphor of the song makes it interesting, even if, like me, you are not inclined toward the "religious" content. Like the work of the brilliant songwriters Jesse Winchester or Bruce Cockburn, the religion serves the song. Here are the lyrics from the final song on the album, a little one-minute exercise in allegory, and whether you see a nod to Smaug or to Lucifer, the toy piano.
