A good example why live drums ruin so many great Electronics acts. It could be worse (like Combichrist working w/ 2 live acoustic drummers during their 'Monsters of Rock" tour), but the weak sounds and predictable / over-used arrangements coming from these disappoint. EBM bands like Bodystyler or Jäger 90 with their (albeit often very minimalistic) synth / live drums approach get my approval instead.

Sorry;but i dont' agree at all.Re:Booot '98 is heavily edited and overdubbed, it IS NOT WEAK in any way...at the contrary it's one of the loudest electronic live albums i 've ever heard! They're contemporary, that means their sound will change from year to year. In the late nineties this sound was influenced by the 808 and 909 sounds of house and trance. 242 took some of the best songs out of their catalogue and made them contemporary. And, unlike so many bands of the genre, made the live electronic music experience not only sound like it is live, but also aggressive as well. 'Welcome to Paradise' is one of the many that justs begs to be blasted, the arpeggiated beats just seem to get crazy and wild! I can't vouch for what they use during the live sets, to me Re:Boot sounds live, like they're actually playing instruments, instead of a DAT.Moreover, in this LP edition (i've got both CD and LP editions) the analogic power of the vinyl makes it even more louder and punchier !!!C'mon, how can you say that 'In Rhythmus Bleiben', 'Headhunter' and 'Punish Your Machine' (just to name a few random tracks) are WEAK on the Re:Boot album?'Punish Your Machine' nearly destroyed my B&O Subwoofer driver !
X-MEN
In 1998 Roland Music Equipment sponsored a small world tour for Front 242. This release captures one of those gigs. All songs have been rearranged (with Roland Equipment of course) and sound a little more dance oriented than their original versions. Although the dance treatment works well on some songs, I feel that some depth is lacking and the live drums sound rather weak. The album hits rock bottom when Richard 23 chants "sex is good" during 'Body to Body'...
