David Gilmour is the debut solo studio album by Pink Floyd guitarist and co-lead vocalist David Gilmour. The album reached number 17 in the UK and number 29 on the Billboard US album charts; it was certified Gold in the US by the RIAA. The album was produced by Gilmour, and consists mostly of blues, guitar oriented rock songs except for the piano-dominated ballad "So Far Away".

Shameless sea Aimlessly so blue Midnight-moon shines for you. Still, marooned Silence drifting through Nowhere to choose Just blue. Ceaselessly Star-crossed you and me Save our souls We'll be forever blue. Waves roll Lift us in blue Drift us Seep right through And colour us blue. Wait for me Shameless you, the sea Soon, the blue So soon. The Blue" Track Info. Written By David Gilmour & Polly Samson.

Aimlessly so Blue" I had no real idea what I was painting when I started this. I wanted something that showed all sorts of blue shades along with whites, silvers and blacks. The idea was to try and represent a deep ocean surface with white foam and swirling currents. I'm not a huge David Gilmour fan but like him enough that when I was thinking of what to call this, his song "The Blue" immediately popped into mind. This in painted on a canvas with a . " deep box so it needs no framing and the swirls continue on down all sides.

David Gilmour's debut solo album was released in May 1978. David Gilmour wasn't jaw-dropping enough to pull the guitarist out of Pink Floyd's shadow entirely. More than 35 years after the fact, it feels like a warm-up for what Gilmour would accomplish on future recordings (including his hugely underrated 2006 album, On an Island), and it's difficult not to imagine the less-developed tracks (like the repetitive riff-fest of "Cry From the Street") as Pink Floyd scraps.
