Pole - Wald flac album

Pole - Wald Basic Channel may have invented dub techno, but during his late '90s run of numerical albums, Pole (AKA Stefan Betke) was also pivotal in forging the gut-quaking sound of contemporary techno. His tracks were slathered in static, pops and hiss under which pulsed muggy low-end that seemed to strip dub reggae down to pure reverberation.

It’s been quite a while since we last heard from dubtronic, glitch figurehead Stefan Betke under his Pole alias. Indeed, it’s been a good eight years since his preceding ‘Steingarten’ album, his most recent longplayer, if you don’t count his 2011 ‘Waldgeschichten’ EP series that followed in its wake. Crafted over a three year period, this latest album ‘Wald’ sees Betke using this extended period of absence to reassess his musical processes and in many senses start afresh from a blank slate.

The album Wald is indeed the end of it. Working on a new idea is very inspiring. You need to get focused again and find frames for sounds, structures, space and whatever else is needed to compose a good track. What you achieve in the best case, is a new step in how you make music. An album that irritates you is always a good sign that the work process has lead somewhere and that you have not repeated yourself. Will you be on tour for the rest of the year? The vinyl version includes a free Digital Download Code. Wald begins immediately, ends abruptly, and is divided into three acts over three tracks. It is the first studio album under Stefan Betke’s Pole moniker for eight years – not counting the three 12″ EPs under the title Waldgeschichten (released in 2011/2012 and which were something like preliminary studies for this new album). Eight years is half an eternity in the digital age – yet the pieces on Wald seem timeless, or to have fallen from time. Stefan Betke: After Steingarten I was on tour for two years.

On Wald, his first album in eight years, Betke (aka Pole) has begun to show an interest in the emotional capabilities of his music. Inspired by the long walks he would take through the forests of the Alps, Betke crafted a nine-song, three-part work based on nature's spatiality (Akt 1), raw sounds (Akt 2) and structures (Akt 3). Although much of Pole's music has been a steady continuum of his original vision, Wald comes off like a spiritual reset, as Betke.
