The Punch Line is the first 12-inch studio album and third record release by influential American punk rock band Minutemen, and the fourth-ever release from SST Records. After their previous release, Paranoid Time, sold out its 300-copy pressing, Greg Ginn invited the band to record another album. Less than half the length of most LPs, the total playing time for all 18 songs is a mere 15 minutes.
The Punch Line (CD, Album, RE). SST Records. SST CD 004. US. 1992. This is one of my top records. The fusion of funk, jazz, punk and anger is one of the best combinations that exists. Hints to enjoy this record, try to get into the abrasive but enjoyable music, and have a lyric sheet handy because you will need it to fully understand these songs. Reply Notify me Helpful.
The Minutemen may have come out of the same California hardcore scene that produced Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and Fear, but they not only bore little resemblance to their West Coast contemporaries, they didn't sound much like anyone else in American rock at that time

LP (12" album, 33 rpm). Minutemen Format: Vinyl. The Minutemen at their best were pure poetry, propelled by raw power and a funky punk sensibility. Their 1981 release "The Punch Line" is their finest effort. The band came out of the . punk scene, working class kids chumming around with bands known for blasting noise - crude, loud, and blunt - bands like Black Flag, the Circle Jerks, and Lawndale. But with their ears opened by listening to records by Wire and others, they realized that they needn't fit their music into any genre.
