Madvillainy is the debut studio album by American hip hop duo Madvillain, a group consisting of MF Doom (MC) and Madlib (producer). It was released on March 23, 2004 on Stones Throw Records. The album was recorded between 2002 and 2004 and was produced entirely by Madlib, with the exception of "The Illest Villains" which was produced by both Madlib and Doom.

Released March 23, 2004. Madvillainy Tracklist. 1. The Illest Villains Lyrics. As yet, the only album by MC/producer duo Madvillain, featuring MF DOOM rapping and Madlib producing. Despite being a heavy underground release, it made it to number 179 on the US Billboard 200, and has since been recognised as a classic album. In 2003, DOOM and Madlib (counterintuitively) foreshadowed the release on Stepping Into Tomorrow, from Madlib’s Shades of Blue: Madlib Invades Blue Note: Party people DOOM Here to let you know That I have no prior knowledge to any invasion Or Any invasion being planned or executed And I have no ties to Madlib Or any organizations affiliated

MF DOOM and Madlib are Madvillain. The two met in 2002 and soon began working on Madvillainy which would be finished over the next year and released in March 2004. The music on Madvillainy went against the grain of all popular conventions in contemporary hip-hop: short songs, dirty sound, no choruses, and with lyrical themes which were not always clear to everyone on first listen. The album received the highest critical praise of a hip-hop album released in 2004, and years later has continued to generate interest and controversy  . DOOM and Madlib have worked on a second Madvillain album on and off for several years. If you're waiting for it, wait in line behind us. To mark Madvillainy's 15th anniversary, SPIN spoke at length with MF Doom about his memories of making the album, its impact on current underground rap, and th. From marathon recording sessions, a new persona was born in the hybrid of producer and MC: Madvillain. The months that Doom and Madlib spent together in the Stones Throw compound amounted to a blunted haze of creative productivity: Madlib inside making beats, Doom on the porch writing rhymes. The record they came up with is murky, free-associative, and frequently laugh-out-loud funny-the sound of two casual virtuosos hanging out together all day, shooting the shit and trading ideas. Fifteen years after its March 2004 release, Madvillainy stands as a classic of underground rap.
