Les Chants Magnétiques (English title: Magnetic Fields) is the fifth studio album by French electronic musician and composer Jean-Michel Jarre, released on Disques Dreyfus on 22 May 1981. The album was one of the first records to use sampling as a musical element and represents a departure from the sound of Jarre's previous efforts. Though Jean-Michel Jarre's first album of the ’80s is composed of a single electronic suite, it’s both more urgent and features greater rhythmic momentum than any of the epic synthesiser journeys he’d taken before. Seemingly informed by the early ’80s synth-pop explosion-for which Jarre’s earlier albums helped lay the groundwork-Les Chants Magnétiques is the sound of a concept coming full circle. Inspired by Andy Warhol’s work, Jarre recorded the album Magnetic Fields in 1981. He was invited to China soon after to introduce the opus with five concerts in Peking und Shanghai. Newly remastered and with updated artwork. My favourite Jarre Album, but it has been really badly re-mastered. Muffled sound, lots of mid-eq boost - the drums on Part 2 are squashed to an inch of their lives. Night and Day compared to the original recording.
