This list of compositions by Robert Schumann is classified into piano, vocal, choral, orchestral and chamber works. All works are also listed separately, by opus number. Schumann wrote almost exclusively for the piano until 1840, when he burst into song composition around the time of his marriage to Clara Wieck. Op. 1, Variations on the name "Abegg" (1830). 3, Études after Paganini Caprices (1832). 4, Intermezzi (1832).

Schumann: Concertos; Concert Pieces. Haebler; Bell; Harrell; Ashkenazy; Barenboim; Solti. A unique collection, bringing together Schumann’s Concertos and concertante works, including the first international release of Ingrid Haebler’s recording of the Piano Concerto and Barenboim’s of the Konzertstück for Four Horns. The unjustly neglected Concert Pieces, Opp. 92 & 134 are given glorious readings by Ashkenazy and both the Cello and Violin Concertos receive admirable performances from Lynn Harrell and Joshua Bell, respectively. Track listing, artists. ROBERT SCHUMANN Piano Concerto.

Concertpiece for Four Horns and Orchestra. Konzertstück in F-Dur. 4本のホルンと管弦楽のためのコンツェルトシュテュック; Konzertstück für vier Hörner und Orchester; Concert Piece for four Horns and Orchestra. Concertstück für vier Hörner und grosses Orchester; Konzertstück für 4 Hörner und Orchester; Konzertstück op. 86; Konzertstück F-Dur; Concert Piece, Op. 86; Concert Piece in F major. Opus/Catalogue NumberOp.

Both were children of a great historical turning point, political and musical. Both depended on tradition as a solid foundation upon which to create something new, something of their own, while regarding its musical and expressive aspects as more important than innovative techniques. Both also earned recognition only posthumously – though not uncontested – as the most important German composers of their time. Zimmermann’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra of 1950 follows the convention of three-movement form, while paying homage to the contemporary zeitgeist in its use of twelve-tone technique, applied in the second movement, and in its rumba finale. The first movement contrasts a lyrical, richly scored expressive theme with a dancelike, lightly scored second theme.

In some cases concert pieces start with a separate opening movement, or are otherwise in more than one movement or section. A piece that presents itself as a miniature concerto is rather called concertino than concert piece, although in German several such concertinos are known as Konzertstücke. For instance Siegfried Wagner's Flute Concertino was published as Konzertstück for flute and small orchestra. Incomplete concerto movements by Beethoven and Schubert were retroactively designated as concert pieces
