Album · 1997 · 10 Songs. Released in a rush the first time out, Dondestan was given second life with a leisurely remix, hence Revisited, where Wyatt could point out the sights and punch up the highlights in this ethereal nightmare. Where most music that centers around lush keyboards usually results in a soothing exercise, Wyatt is too alive with counterpoint and political and surrealist concerns to lets things flow so easily. His wife, Alfreda Benge, has her poetry put to Wyatt’s music and the result is even more abstract than usual. Calling this rock, pop, jazz or progressive music misses the mark.

Dondestan (Revisited) is generally a very predictable album since it doesn't go outside the style and direction that Robert Wyatt had carved out for himself on his previous releases. There are a few minor experiments but they honestly don't hold a candle to what he did earlier in his career. Robert Wyatt followed up the Casio-tastic Old Rottenhat with one of his strangest albums, which emerged first in 1991 in a somewhat rushed mix due to running out of time and recording budget. Later, thanks in part to the success of Shleep, a new remix of the album would emerge entitled Dondestan Revisited, which teases out the subtleties of the compositions.

Dondestan: Revisited. Enhanced, Remastered. Overall, Dondestan is a wispy, gorgeous dream of an album. As usual, much of the delight is in simply listening to Robert Wyatt sing, but that joy wouldn't be as great were the songs and production not as strong as they are. If you're new to Robert Wyatt, I'd start with his mid-70's work (Rock Bottom is always referenced as his best, for good reasons), and if you've heard some other stuff, I think I'd probably recommend working through his albums estan sounds better and makes more sense having heard Old Rottenhat, and taking the time to get.

Robert Wyatt, ever since exiting the Soft Machine, turned away from the psychedelic explorations of his former band and found his own, softer brand of music. Primary a drummer with his old bands (Soft Machine/Matching Mole), Wyatt's interest in drumming waned after an accident left him paralyzed. Although greatly immobilized, Wyatt's imagination was suddenly freed, leading him to a string of unique and critically adored albums during the '70s. Rykodisc's recent reissue of Dondestan (Revisited, is actually the album's third incarnation. Wyatt, in 1998, found Dondestan's original master tapes and created a new version, different in both mix and tracklisting, more in tune to what he wanted from the album. It is Wyatt's approved mix that Rykodisc has decided to remaster and market, and from the way the tracks seamlessly flow into one another, it is difficult to imagine Dondestan in any other form. 2, Dynamic Range Meter . 1 log date: 2014-07-28 18:54:55 -. Talk about Robert Wyatt - Dondestan (Revisited)

Onath
In all copies I ever heard, either US or UK reissue, I heard the effect of - or similar to - non-fill sections.I contacted Domino a couple of times to made them aware but they never answered. I felt ignored by them. That's really a shame since this records sound very good.
Andromathris
Yes, the same thing with my copy, particularly in Catholic Architecture. Such a shame.
