Black Market is an instrumental jazz fusion album released by Weather Report in 1976. This album was produced by Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter. It was recorded in December 1975 and released in April 1976 through Columbia Records. Columbia released it again as a digitally remastered CD in 1991. This is Weather Report's seventh overall album and the first with the bass player Jaco Pastorius who features on two tracks.

Black Market shows Weather Report in full transition from much of their stoney roots austerity manifest on such previous works as I Sing The Body Electric and Mysterious Traveller.

While it goes without saying that most Weather Report albums are transition albums, this diverse record is even more transient than most, paving the way for WR's most popular period while retaining the old sense of adventure.

Produced by Wayne Shorter. Black Market" Track Info. Written By Joe Zawinul. Release Date March 11, 1976. Black Market Weather Report.

Weather Report was one of the most influential jazz-fusion groups of their era, and outlasted many of its contemporaries such as Herbie Hancock's Headhunters and The Mahavishnu Orchestra. Despite many personnel changes over its 16 year lifespan, they continued to create groundbreaking music under the guidance of Joe Zawinul. Bandmembers Zawinul, Shorter and Moreira all played the bands of Miles Davis and at first Weather Report was a direct extension of Miles' In A Silent Way and Bitches Brew period. But when bassist Jaco Pastorius became a bandmember in 1976, Weather Report entered.
