The Boston Pops Orchestra is an American orchestra based in Boston, Massachusetts that specializes in playing light classical and popular music. The Boston Pops was founded in 1885 as a second, popular identity of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), founded four years earlier

Arthur Fiedler (December 17, 1894 – July 10, 1979) was a long-time conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra, a symphony orchestra that specializes in popular and light classical music. With a combination of musicianship and showmanship, he made the Boston Pops one of the best-known orchestras in the United States

Although pops concert began in the late nineteenth century, it was Fiedler who really popularized them through recordings, broadcasts, and even telecasts. Beginning in July 1935, the Pops recorded for RCA Victor, a relationship that continued until the late 1960's. The classical selections on this CD include a rare stereo recording of the overture to Michael Balfe's "The Bohemian Girl," an operetta that was adapated for a Laurel and Hardy feature film released in 1936. The album was quickly released later that year as RCA Victor flooded the classical market with a number of stereo LPs in its three-channel "Living Stereo" process. It remains a very enjoyable album and the sound still amazes the listener. 14 people found this helpful.

His recordings began in July 1935 at Boston's Symphony Hall with RCA, including a world premiere recording of Jacob Gade's Jalousie, which eventually sold more than a million copies, and the first complete recording of Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin (with Jesús Maria Sanromá as soloist)

This is a week-end afternoon band concert expertly performed and realized by the Pops Who put the "pops" into orchestral performance. Light classics and a sing-along make this an enjoyable recording.
