Curlew With Amy Denio Lyrics By Paul Haines - A Beautiful Western Saddle, The Hardwood ‎(CD, Album, RE + DVD-V, RE, NTSC + Comp).

Let's Sit Right Down, The Passing (with Amy Denio). 2. Such Credentials As Have Become Pseudonym (with Amy Denio). 3. Poem for Gretchen Ruth (with Amy Denio). 4. All's Well That Ends (with Amy Denio). 5. Peking Widow (with Amy Denio). 6. The Prince (with Amy Denio). 7. What Is Free to a Good Home? (with Amy Denio).

Curlew's first album of the 1990s (a studio recording released by Cuneiform) was Bee, and marked the first appearance of bassist (and vocalist on a fine rendition of Cream's "As You Said") Ann Rupel, who also played in the group No Safety. One of Curlew's more experimental releases, the 1993 A Beautiful Western Saddle, featured singer Amy Denio and lyrics by poet Paul Haines. By 1996's Paradise, drummer Barnett had been replaced by Samm Bennett, also a member of Third Person, a trio that included Cora. Bennett was also leader of the . jazz-rock band Chunk.

It’s a double album, and my dad wrote like . t’s like an opera. They call it a chronotransduction. But Carla Bley says we call it an opera for short. And so it’s these interesting characters, and everything is sung by artists from all different genres. Linda Ronstadt is on there. For his second collaboration with Amy Denio, Cartwright again has scripted music to accompany lyrics written by poet, librettist, and all-around hipster Paul Haines. Like Curlew’s A Beautiful Western Saddle, Memphis Years sticks because Denio’s voice flaunts abstract distance while sounding like a floating camera taking motion pictures. She captures Haines’s oblique texts while Cartwright and a cast of Memphis players blow a rhythmically decentralized series of tunes around the words
