Gary Lewis & the Playboys were an American 1960s era pop and rock group, fronted by musician Gary Lewis, the son of comedian Jerry Lewis. They are best known for their 1965 Billboard Hot 100 number-one single "This Diamond Ring", which was the first of a string of hit singles they had in 1965 and 1966. The band had an earnest, boy-next-door image similar to British invasion contemporaries such as Herman's Hermits and Gerry and the Pacemakers.

Gary Lewis and the Playboys were a pop/rock group fronted by musician Gary Lewis, son of comedian Jerry Lewis, which earned its most success as a 'swinging sixties' band. Releasing four gold albums as well as many hits, songs "Count Me In" and "This Diamond Ring" in particular continue to receive significant airplay. The group initially auditioned for a job at Disneyland, supposedly without telling Disneyland employees about Lewis' celebrity father.

The rest of the Playboys took a back seat to session men Leon Russell (piano and arranger), Hal Blaine (drums), Tommy Allsup (guitar) and Joe Osborn (bass). Additionally, Ron Hicklin provided a basic vocal for double-tracked Gary to follow. Hicklin and some of the band were used as backup singers. The finished song zoomed to and the Playboys were off and running. In 1965-'66, Gary and band had seven Top Ten singles. All are on the 1966 LIBERTY Records LP entitled GARY LEWIS AND THE PLAYBOYS GOLDEN GREATS (LRP 3468). Additionally on second generation copies ( see below) there's five of their 'B' sides, plus the 'B' of a record not included here ("My Heart's Symphony").
