Gary Lewis & the Playboys were an American 1960s era pop and rock group, fronted by musician Gary Lewis, the son of comedian Jerry Lewis. They are best known for their 1965 Billboard Hot 100 number-one single "This Diamond Ring", which was the first of a string of hit singles they had in 1965 and 1966. The band had an earnest, boy-next-door image similar to British invasion contemporaries such as Herman's Hermits and Gerry and the Pacemakers.

The first album was not the highest quality and that could be the problem. A Session with Gary Lewis is a excellent sounding album. Gary seems to perform many of the covers of those songs in the live shows. I figured they would be remixed and remastered up to CD quality. Even though I really like Gary Lewis and The Playboys' music, I was really disappointed. It sounds like they recorded them right off the old vinyl-thin sounding with all the instruments on one side and all the vocals on the other. It seems to me it was a rush job just to get it released before Christmas '9. he saving grace of the CD is the inclusion of BOTH flip sides of "This Diamond Ring"-"Hard to Find" and "Tijuana Wedding.
