Lyrics to "Prison Bound" song by Social Distortion: Well, I'm goin' to a place where the tough guys go And come out even tougher A place where a man . .Oh, I'm prison bound I did a crime one too many times It's on the outskirts of town, by the railroad tracks Where the country moon shines Oh, I'm prison bound Tell my girl I'll be back one day Oh, I'm prison bound I may never know any other way. Well, they take away my freedom of expression or action Johnny says I'll walk the line With three hots and a cot And a lot of talk With lock-up, concrete, and steel.

The band then returned to the studio around the summer/fall of 1989, with producer Dave Jerden, to begin recording their self-titled third album, which was released in 1990. It was Social Distortion's first album that was not financed by the band. The album includes the singles "Ball and Chain" and Story of My Life as well as a cover of Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire. Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes (2009–2011). In April 2008, Ness told Spinner that Social Distortion was planning an acoustic album to be released in 2009, stating "I think it could be really, really neat. It's almost like a Bob Dylan/Bruce Springsteen/Johnny Cash kind of feel with a punk edge. Sometimes are more powerful stripped down than with full volume.
