Gong are an international progressive rock band that incorporates elements of jazz and space rock into their musical style. The group was formed in Paris in 1967 by Australian musician Daevid Allen and English vocalist Gilli Smyth. Band members have included Didier Malherbe, Pip Pyle, Steve Hillage, Mike Howlett, Pierre Moerlen, Bill Laswell and Theo Travis. Others who have played on stage with Gong include Don Cherry, Chris Cutler, Bill Bruford, Brian Davison, Dave Stewart and Tatsuya Yoshida.

this album is a work of immense beauty and power if you can get past the vocal parts, mireille bauer steals the show here. i played this album for the first time last night and found myself playing it for hours at a time. it;s safe to say this is my favourite pierre moerlin gong album so far with "gazeuse" coming in.

I'm Dead!" which showcased yet another version of GONG this time without Allen, without Pierre Moerlen and without any of the musicians that came and went throughout the band's lengthy existence.

Shamal is the sixth studio album released under the name Gong and was released by Virgin Records in February 1976. The album, produced by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, is considered to be neither a true Daevid Allen's Gong album nor a true Pierre Moerlen's Gong album. Studio album by. Gong. There are only six tracks here, but each one seems to explore a different tone and aspect of musical experimentation.

Shamal is, for the most part, a progressive rock album, half vocal, half instrumental. Penned by Mike Howlett, his ealing vocal style and lyrics will grow on you, given the opportunity. Bambooji," mostly instrumental, opens with Didier Malherbe's flute, which at times gives this tune an Asian sound. Percussion and flute dominate and yield a Scottish feeling as well.
