Hell-On’ is rife with withering self-critique, muted reflection, anthemic affirmation and Neko’s unique poetic sensibility.

Produced by Neko Case. God is not a contract or a guy God is an unspecified tide You cannot time its tables It sets no glass or gables God is a lusty tire fire Its bristles scrape and strike the stage A rock-paper-scissors rage Have mercy on the natural world. My voice is not the liquid waves The perfect rings 'round a heron's legs My voice a straight garroting wire A stolen mile of fingerprints Peeled up quiet from their dunes Captured and re-spooled as ruin To be used at a different time.

Singer-songwriter Neko Case unveiled a new song, Hell-On, the deceptively sinister title-track from her upcoming album, out June 1st via Anti. Hell-On boasts a smoldering mix of guitar plucks, muted drums and swelling strings, over which Case sings in a sweetened voice, You cannot time its table, it sets no glass or gables/ God is a lusty tire fire.

Neko Richelle Case (/ˈniːkoʊ ˈkeɪs/; born September 8, 1970) is an American singer-songwriter, best known for her solo career and her contributions as a member of the Canadian indie rock group The New Pornographers. Case, born in Alexandria, Virginia, is the daughter of Diana Mary Dubbs and James Bamford Case. Case's paternal family surname was originally Shevchenko. Her father, a Vietnam veteran serving in the United States Air Force was based in Virginia when she was born.

For all of Neko Case’s masterfully delivered tales of killer animals and sentient weather patterns, her decades of work have revealed an increasingly human worldview where mercy is shown only to those who deserve it. She sings of bloodshed and mystery and revenge, but in her albums there are also pleas for basic compassion that are intimate and deeply felt. I’m a man, she sang in a definitive lyric from her strikingly personal album from 2013, The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight. You are beautiful and you are alone, went a borrowed mantra on her last album. Hell-On takes the opposite angle: As ugly as things get, at least we have each other. With this outlook, Case is empowered. In the dazzling ballad Halls of Sarah, she sings, Our poets do an odious business loving womankind/As lions love Christians.

Neko Case has announced a new album. It’s titled Hell-On, and it’s being released on June 1 via Anti-. That’s the album’s artwork below, along with the tracklist. She said the following about the album in a press release: There were a few challenges during the making of this record from small (scheduling difficulties, and occasional miscommunication) to large (my house burning down while I was overseas. Case is also touring this spring, take a look at those dates below. Hell-On follows 2013′s The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You, and her 2016 collaboration with Laura Veirs and . lang, case/lang/veirs. Update: Hear her new track, Hell-On, below. Neko Case Hell-On tracklist

Hell-On also contains Case’s first-ever co-write with her New Pornographers bandmate Carl Newman, Gumball Blue, which is seemingly about the band itself: All the spells we cast without tryin. ’ve lived, singing your songs/ Long-legged mazes and English geometry.

Talk about Neko Case - Hell-On

Dreladred
Any idea if they plan on releasing a single slab version of this record? I'm getting a bit tired of all the super heavy weight, double album at 45 speed bull crap. It's just not the listening experience I'm looking for.
Meztihn
I agree. Could easily have been a single disc. That being said, its an incredible album. Totally loving this album.
