Satta Massagana is a roots reggae album released by The Abyssinians officially in 1976. It is widely considered The Abyssinians' crowning achievement and a classic roots reggae album. The title track "Satta Massagana" was a huge hit and has been versioned numerous times by both The Abyssinians and other artists since. It has even been adopted by some Rastafarian groups as a hymn used during services

Album · 1975 · 14 Songs. They recorded their landmark song of faith, Satta Massagana ( give thanks ), in 1969, and over the course of the next several years, it would become one of the most influential roots tracks ever created, a Rastafarian paean that was covered, sampled, reworked, and copied countless times (by the Abyssinians and other artists). After recording several other monumental singles in the early ‘70s, the group decided to make their first LP in 1976, under the supervision of Clive Hunt.

And the Abyssinians themselves are a fine vocal trio. If they're not as sweet-sounding as the Mighty Diamonds, and not as tight and compelling as the Heptones, they do have a fierce and intense spirituality that is pretty compelling in its own right. But all that said, this is an album that takes some time and adjustment to enjoy. For one thing, every single song is taken at exactly the same tempo.

Talk about The Abyssinians - Satta Massagana

Lo◘Ve
How good does this press sound please ? I really consider buying it, and I guess it sounds fine, but I'd like a testimony
EXIBUZYW
Looks just like the original...?Can't be original with this paper.
Hamrl
Packed with great vocals/songs/lyrics/musicianship, one of the best albums ever made of any genre of music.....a must have album for any Reggae aficionado.
Magis
One of the greatest albums ever made. The vocals, music, lyrics, harmonies and production are absolutely superb....Timeless Classic
Walan
Great sounding release with a whole extra record of additional material in a gatefold sleeve with liner notes on the album; what's not to love? Sounds pretty great to my ears too.
Low_Skill_But_Happy_Deagle
Please stop listing post 2000 reissues here unless you have a 1977 record to sell in Mint condition like you sellers are saying! Come on folks -be honest.
Yar
The original 1977 issue has a tip-on sleeve. The reissue uses the same matrices as the original pressing, but the stamper is different (the etching is not identical).
Whitescar
How can one tell? The one I bought looks newish, but has the ‘Clive Hunt’etched into the deadwax.
Tejora
This is a classic album, but it's fairly relaxed and the tunes all move at the same pace so you may find it a little monotonous, however I quite like it. The title tune is one of Reggae's most abiding anthems, and "Declaration of Rights" and "Yim Mas Gan" are also big tunes, but whilst all the other tunes sound OK in isolation, other than "African Race", I don't think the other original tracks are that great. The bonus tracks on the 1993 CD release are all good though.
Rishason
the lp with the br001 matrix is a slightly alternative mix to the klik pressing - listen to the intro on african race which is clearly different - i have been told that the abyssinians themselves pressed a limited quantity in the uk on black vinyl (i'm not sure about the red ones) to tout around to record companies who were investing in reggae at the time.

Album also known variously as 'Satta Amasagana' or 'Forward On To Zion' depending on who pressed it up.
