The Abyssinians - Arise flac album

The Abyssinians are a Jamaican roots reggae group, famous for their close harmonies and promotion of the Rastafari movement in their lyrics. The vocal trio was originally formed in 1968 by Bernard Collins and Donald Manning. Their first song was "Satta Massagana", which was strongly influenced by Carlton Manning's "Happy Land".

Few bands have been quite as consistently identified with a single song as the Abyssinians have been with their roots classic "Satta Massagana," a repatriation anthem that has been covered by so many other bands that it has turned into a kind of reggae version of "Kum Ba Y. And being no fools, the Abyssinians have milked that song for all it's worth, recording it several times in different versions or writing new lyrics to go with the familiar melody. Arise, their second full-length album, is no exception: on "Mightiest of All," the band quotes the Amharic.
