However, Spectral shows a more matured and developed Skyfire. The production is better on this album allowing to showcase the great keyboard work, melodic riffs, and some very nice drumming. In an over-saturated genre such as this, it is very hard to remain on top of the pack and few bands have been able to do so.

The third album Spectral was recorded at Los Angered and Studio Underground and released on May 10, 2004, by Arise Records  . Skyfire's fourth album is titled Esoteric, and it was released on September 14, 2009 in the United Kingdom via Pivotal Rockordings. The album was released on September 18, 2009 in the rest of Europe, and in North America on October 13, 2009, due to a scheduling issue. The cover art was created by Pär Olofsson, who also made covers for.

Skyfire's technical blend of melodic death and black metal has proven quite addictive to me. I just finished listening through Spectral for the first time and jut let it continue looping for a second time and probably a third before it leaves my CD player. One could make a case for Skyfire to be firmly implanted into the black metal category, but they are 'officially' a melodic death metal band. The guitar work is toned down and blast beats carry the musical style into realms of melodeath. And the wait was well worth it!
