MGM Records was a record label started by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studio in 1946 for the purpose of releasing soundtrack albums of their musical films. It soon transitioned to a pop music label which continued into the 1970s. The company also released soundtrack albums of the music for some of their non-musical films as well, and on rare occasions, cast albums of off-Broadway musicals such as The Fantasticks and the 1954 revival of The Threepenny Opera

The album comes in gold and, with plenty of photos on the cover and inside the gatefold, it is certainly worth having. The Sidewinders are not the Andy Paley band that recorded for RCA in the '70s; this is a soul group performing James Brown's "Cold Sweat" in 1967. There are two Elf tracks from 1973 and 1974 that sound more like the Dio who listeners know and love, and the Belmonts' track from 1975 features Dan Elliot sounding like the Happenings. This is an intriguing collection that sheds some light on important music history. Despite the flawed sound, The History of Syracuse.

The first lion, called Slats, was used for the original Goldwyn Pictures design and for the first MGM version. He didn’t actually roar, preferring to people watch. The lion gave an audible roar on July 31, 1928 for the debut of the movie White Shadows in the South Seas. The roar was heard via a gramophone record because the movie was silent. Jackie, 1928-1956, the second lion to be used in the logo. Jackie’s roar was recorded for use at the beginning of MGM talking movies. A sound stage was built around his cage to make the recording

Introduction and the brief history of music. Get to know the music periods and history of medieval, renaissance, baroque, classical, romantic era music. Through the history of music, we find increasing evidence of its key role in sacred and secular settings. It is from these humble beginnings that the music we enjoy today evolved. As we move further through the history of music we find increasing evidence of its key role in sacred and secular settings, although the division into these categories was not defined in this way until many years later. Influences from the west to the east merged into the pre-Christian music of the Greeks and later the Romans. Musical practices and conventions perhaps conveyed by travelling musicians brought a wealth of diversity and invention.

In 800 BCE the first recovered piece of recorded music was found. It was written in cuneiform and was a religious hymn. It should be noted that cuneiform is not a type of musical notation. By 700 BCE there are records of songs that include vocals with instrumentals. This added a whole new dimension to music: accompaniment. Music in Ancient Rome and Greece. Greece was the root of all Classical art, so it's no coincidence that Classical music is rooted in Grecian innovations. In 600 BCE, famed mathematician Pythagorus dissected music as a science and developed the keystone of modern music:. The history of music at this point is best told by the styles that emerged and the composers who lived after the Renaissance.
