Golgotha, or Calvary, was, according to the Gospels, a site immediately outside Jerusalem's walls where Jesus was crucified. Matthew's and Mark's gospels translate the term to mean "place of skull" (Κρανίου Τόπος Kraníou Tópos), in Latin rendered Calvariæ Locus, from which the English word Calvary derives. Its traditional site, identified by Helena of Constantinople, the mother of Constantine the Great, in 325, is at the site of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Calvary’s primary indoor space is a large well-lit room on the third floor of Calvary Presbyterian Church’s Education Building. The space is designed to allow for the fluid exploration of different learning centers, as well as interaction among different classes, which are grouped by age (from 3 – 5). Each morning, Calvary teachers set up thoughtful learning provocations for children to begin exploring the moment they arrive at school.
