The Weight of the World is the seventh studio album by American thrash metal band Metal Church. It was released in 2004 through the Steamhammer/SPV label. This album marks the beginning of Metal Church's third major line-up, with the addition of Ronny Munroe (vocals), Jay Reynolds (guitar), and Steve Unger (bass). This album is also the last to feature Kirk Arrington on drums. It is hailed by critics and fans alike as Metal Church's comeback album.

All components considered, The Weight of the World is actually no slouch of an album, with what might be the most professional production of any Metal Church recording to its day, and a far more enthusiastic roster of songs than were found on 1999's Masterpeace. The problem is that this just never sounded like a Metal Church record to me, but a band waving the flag of an established band moniker to keep forcing itself down a spiral into no man's land

Metal Church’s new release, The Weight Of The World, is their first in five years, and even though the band has gone trough some serious line-up changes, this album should be good news for the fans. It won’t put the world on fire, but to anyone that can adjust to the fact that the band has got both a new singer and bass player, it should still be possible to find several reasons why one still should be proud of being a Metal Church fan. The new voice, Ronny Munroe (from the Seattle band Rottweiller) is the band’s third singer after Mike Howe and David Wayne. Heavy riffs and big choruses should make this album well worth promoting from stage along with their old material.

Metal Church is an American heavy metal band. They originally formed in San Francisco, California in 1980 before relocating to Aberdeen, Washington the following year and briefly using the name Shrapnel. Their eponymous debut album was released in 1984, and their latest, XI, is due for release in 2016.
