Bangladesh has many tribal people, majority of whom live in the Chittagong hill tracts area. Life of the tribal people is extremely fascinating. Majority of them are Buddhists, and rest are Hindus, Christians, and Animists. They grow their own food, their girls weave their own cloths and generally speaking, they live a simple life. Each tribe has its own dialect, distinctive dress, and rites and rituals. The common feature is their way of life, which still speaks of their main occupation. Some of them take pride in hunting with bows and arrows.

The exact origin of the word Bangla is unknown, though it is believed to come from "Vanga", an ancient kingdom and geopolitical division on the Ganges delta in the Indian subcontinent. It was located in southern Bengal, with the core region including present-day southern West Bengal (India) and southwestern Bangladesh. Other theories point to a Bronze Age proto-Dravidian tribe, the Austric word "Bonga" (Sun god), and the Iron Age Vanga Kingdom. The Indo-Aryan suffix Desh is derived from the Sanskrit word deśha, which means "land" or "country"
