The members of Massive Attack earned their spurs with early '80s sound systems; central to the acoustic requirements were the cavernous mid-range space of dub and the deliberately lo-fi drum programming drawn from old school hip-hop. In any event, this aspect of their sound should work perfectly as an instrumental soundtrack. Luc Besson's thriller, to be named either Danny the Dog or Unleashed, is about a man who has been imprisoned since birth, released only for combat in vicious contests or as a mob enforcer. It will not be released for a number of months yet, which means that the score can stand on its own merits, not least because there are none of the increasingly obligatory snippets of dialogue spliced into the music.

Main article: Protection (Massive Attack album). After Shara Nelson left, the band brought in Everything but the Girl's Tracey Thorn as a vocalist and released "Protection" on 26 September 1994. With McVey out of the picture, Massive Attack enlisted the production talents of former Wild Bunch Nellee Hooper to co-produce some songs on it, with Mushroom. Other tracks were co-produced by The Insects and 3D. A dub version, No Protection, was released the following year by Mad Professor. Afterwards, Del Naja and Davidge agreed to an offer from director Louis Leterrier, to score the entire soundtrack for Danny The Dog, starring Jet Li. Dot Allison, who had sung with the band on the 100th Window tour, sang the end titles track, "Aftersun". Archived from the original on 8 October 2014. Retrieved 17 September 2014. "Awards & Features: Massive Attack".

Massive Attack's efforts here range from the plodding downtempo on the titular "Danny the Dog" to Crystal Method outtakes like "Simple Rules". In between, is a whole mess of leftfield horse tranquilizers. The internets tell me that the soundtrack is sequenced chronologically, exactly how it appears in the film. If that's true, 90% of the movie will be Jet Li staring out of a window onto the rainy streets of gay Paris, the reflections of the streaking raindrops serving as metaphors for his inner turmoil.

Talk about Massive Attack - Danny The Dog (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Butius
This is quite good. All instrumentals with a wide range of influences andstyles that are lush and moody (It's Massive Attack, right?) and highlypolished in a good way. This is an epic masterful studio production.Just what we have all come to expect from this Bristol institution.Seems to be a bit overlooked somehow.
