With their debut album, Soilwork became popular almost overnight in Sweden. Steelbath Suicide introduced a new melodic-death metal band with loads of potential. Every song features some simply amazing instrumentation, from the melodic opener, to the storm of riffage in the excellent closer. Speed also showcases that screaming comes easy to him, his vocals on this album will make your ears bleed (not an insult). Of course their are some noticeable flaws in the record. Perhaps the most noticeable is the fact that all of the songs sound very similar, save two or three.

Steelbath Suicide, like the other two is all about the Speed and thrashy side of metal, which is exactly how vocalist Björn Strid got the nickname 'Speed', his love for the faster of metal, and Speed is what this album is about, relentless drumming, fast riffage, and fastly screamed vocals. If you like speed, this is an album for you, although the solos usually take place during a slow melodic break, so expect things to slow down occasionally. The musicianship on this album is in fine form, excellet guitar work like the other classic Soilwork albums.

Steelbath Suicide is the 1998 debut full-length studio album from the melodic death metal band Soilwork. The original release has two Japanese bonus tracks, "Disintegrated Skies" and "Burn," a Deep Purple cover. Century Media re-released the album in 2000 with different cover art and a live track of "Sadistic Lullabye. This album is a firm example of the band's immediate roots in Swedish death metal.
