Interpreting The Masters, Volume 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall And John Oates. Volume 1 represents a then-and-now in pop music, a genre once inspired by soul and now consumed by dance. The Bird and the Bee don’t so much recreate Hall & Oates as they modernize them, taking the strictly adhered-to hooks and coating them in shimmering synth lines. But all I could think while listening to neo-synth pop duo the Bird and the Bee’s new collection of Hall & Oates covers, which comes complete with Private Eyes-cribbing cover art, was that hipsters might not be the best candidates to celebrate the legacy of the definitely MOR legends.

Hall & Oates have always been deemed a guilty listening pleasure based on their string of omnipresent chart-toppers. On a new tribute album to the pair, Los Angeles-based pop duo the Bird & the Bee (comprising singer Inara George and t/producer Greg Kurstin) deliciously immerse themselves into such Hall & Oates hits as "Maneater," "Rich Girl" and "Private Eyes. Aside from arrangement updates and catchy synth touches, the Bird & the Bee play it straight as George fetchingly channels Hall's vocal groove.

Interpreting the Masters Volume 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates. Released: March 23, 2010. Formats: CD, LP, digital download. - - Interpreting the Masters Volume 2: A Tribute to Van Halen. Ain't Talking 'Bout Love" -" denotes a recording that did not chart or was not released in that territory. Peak chart positions.

Since then, Hall & Oates’ star has risen again, not with new material, but with an overall embracing of their classic material, including six number one hits. The most recent display of H&O love is in the musical number of (500) Days of Summer, finding Joseph Gordon Levitt lip-synching and dancing to You Make My Dreams. So, it was no surprise to me to find that a modern duo chose to pay tribute to these legendary performers. The Bird & the Bee, . Greg Kurstin and Inara George, made a name for themselves with the single, Fucking Boyfriend. Interpreting the Masters also boasts the caveat that this is the first volume in a series. If the ensuing chapters are as engaging and fun as the first, I’ll be sure to tune in, but I’m wondering what other bands of that era can rival Hall & Oates in sheer pop earworm bliss. Duran Duran? Fleetwood Mac? The Cars?

Album by the bird and the bee. Heard It on the Radio. Sara Smile (cover of "Sara Smile" by Hall & Oates).

This album is FUN! If you are a Hall & Oates fan then you will love listening to so many of their hits redone in such a cool and quirky manner. music is supposed to make you feel good right? I don't have too many friends who are Hall & Oates fans as well but I bought for the one friend I do have and she absolutely love it! She would not stop talking about it and said that it was the best gift I have ever given her (it might have been because my gifts in the past were just really bad!). I have been a great fan of Hall and Oates ever since I heard "Maneater" in 1983. When I heard about the cover being done for all their hits, and then heard snippets of the covers, I was thrilled. The voice is comforting and simple.

Interpreting the Masters Volume 2: A Tribute to Van Halen will be out on August 2nd. The album will be in the style of the duo’s 2010 record Interpreting the Masters, Vol. 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates, crafting a band’s classics into a new genre. Vocalist Inara George and t Greg Kurstin (who’s produced for Adele, Sia, Beck, Pink and more) rework Ain’t Talking ‘Bout Love, from Van Halen’s 1978 self-titled debut, into a lush synth-pop jam that skews closer to the Eighties.
