Marcelle Germaine Tailleferre (French: ; 19 April 1892 – 7 November 1983) was a French composer and the only female member of the group of composers known as Les Six. Marcelle Taillefesse was born at Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, Val-de-Marne, France, but as a young woman she changed her last name to "Tailleferre" to spite her father, who had refused to support her musical studies.

Women of Note ~ Beach, Boulanger, Clarke, Gubaidulina, Larsen, Mendelssohn, Monk, Musgrave, Ran, Zwilich  . Those uninitiated in women's works will become familiar here with some of the best of the last 150 years: Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, Thea Musgrave, and on and on. I hope every author of a text on music since 1840 will come to know and adore this cd, then include the music in their discussions of music history.

Clara Schumann - Piano Works. 6 years ago. Germaine Tailleferre: Ballade for piano and orchestra (1920).

Germaine Tailleferre continued to compose right up until a few weeks before her death, on 7 November 1983 in Paris. She is buried in Quincy-Voisins, Seine-et-Marne, France. L'Album des Six (original title: "Album des 6") is a suite of six piano pieces published in 1920 by Eugène Demets, and written by the members of the group of French composers known as Les Six. This publication occurred in the same year as Les Six was first named as a recognisable group in French music.

Germaine Tailleferre, of Les Six, got her Sonata for Solo Harp – I can hear influences of Satie there, as well as the lightness, elegance and maybe whimsy one associates with French music. Peggy Glanville-Hicks, another Australian with hyphenated name, this one equally eclectic. In her style, combined elements of impressionism with atonality, serialism and neo-classicism.
