referencing Eyewitness, LP, Album, AN 1018. A starkly beautiful contemporary jazz album. Each track is a tasteful blend of thoughtful improvisation, intricate instrumentation, majestic chords and strong melodies. Obviously Steve Khan is a highly-talented guitarist and composer, yet for some reason his solo career never seemed to have much impact. This is one of his finest albums.

The group's first album, Eyewitness (Antilles, 1981), was the subject of an extensive Rediscovery column at All About Jazz in early 2015, and it's flattering to learn that the column was one of a number of factors that led Khan to approach BGO Records with the idea of doing the same thing they'd done with his three Columbia recordings th. And so, BGO's reissue also includes the live Modern Times (Trio Records, 1982)-released in the USA as Blades (Passport Jazz)-and studio follow-up Casa Loco (Antilles, 1984) alongside Eyewitness: newly remastered (and approved by Khan) and spread across two CDs, with extensive liner notes by Matt Phillips. Eyewitness/Modern Times/Casa Loco rights a wrong by putting these albums back in print: three important records that truly redefined Khan as a guitarist, composer, interpreter and bandleader.

This release marked a new era for Steve Khan. Eyewitness was essentially birthed of earlier jam session/improv ideas, and the chemistry between each musician, plus polished-up ideas readied for final studio recording. Khan had returned to his college-days Gibson guitar purity of tone and a touch of reverb, laying aside his Fender Telecaster and big band mindset to groove with friends over eclectic rhythms of Manolo Badrena, Steve Jordan, and exotic bass grooves only the creative genius of Anthony Jackson could lay down.

Steve Khan (born April 28, 1947) is an American jazz guitarist. According to Steve Khan, his father, lyricist Sammy Cahn, "loved to hear of any and all versions of his songs". Thus Khan grew up in a house with music. He took piano lessons as a child and played drums for the surf rock band the Chantays. The band's guitarist exposed him to the albums Tough Talk by the Crusaders and Movin' Wes by Wes Montgomery. In his late teens he quit the drums and started playing guitar.

Tightrope is the 1977 debut solo album of jazz guitarist Steve Khan. Bob James who just got him signed to Columbia Records produced the album for his own Tappan Zee label, a sub-division of Columbia.
