De Stijl /də ˈsteɪl/ is the second studio album by the American garage rock band The White Stripes, released on June 20, 2000 on Sympathy for the Record Industry. The album reached number thirty-eight on Billboard's Independent Albums chart in 2002, when The White Stripes' popularity began to grow.

The White Stripes is the debut studio album by American alternative rock duo The White Stripes, released on June 15, 1999. White dedicated the album to deceased blues musician Son House. Johnny Walker of the Soledad Brothers played slide guitar on two songs: "Suzy Lee" and "I Fought Piranhas"

Though White stretched the boundaries over time, the band was, legendarily, built around a mere three elements: Jack’s voice, his guitar, and his ex-wife Meg’s oft-misunderstood, underrated, occasionally one-handed drumming. White once told longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich that he was mixing a Dead Weather album without automation, which meant he and an engineer had to nail every tweak in real time. White slips on an orange-and-black Detroit Tigers jacket and zips through Third Man’s headquarters toward the one-car garage where he’s parked his Tesla Model S. It’s drizzly in Nashville. He’s got the car’s stereo tuned to a hip-hop Slacker Radio channel, per usual.

With The White Stripes, I would say that they were excellent right from the start, even though many listeners have not heard the songs on this album since they didn't get much radio play time, and the band wasn't known much outside of Detroit when this album came out. In that way, many listeners will feel like they are tapping secret music by the White Stripes right at their beginning

They then moved to the label Sympathy For The Record Industry and began to receive acclaim for their act and eponymous 1st album, mixing astute cover versions (Robert Johnson's "Stop Breaking Down Blues" and Josh White's "St. James Infirmary") with some devastating originals. By the time of the following year's De Stijl, the media buzz surrounding the White Stripes had reached new heights.
