Death and Transfiguration (Tod und Verklärung), Op. 24, is a tone poem for large orchestra by Richard Strauss. Strauss began composition in the late summer of 1888 and completed the work on 18 November 1889. The work is dedicated to the composer's friend Friedrich Rosch. The music depicts the death of an artist.

Christoph von Dohnányi is recognized as one of the world's greatest conductors, and has worked. Don Juan (1888) and Till Eulenspiegel (1895) are often paired on record; less so in concert, not least because each is so demanding of the orchestra. Both works portray fearless characters who flagrantly defy the authority and morals of their times, with an undoubted autobiographical subtext.
