Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson (born Edward L. Vinson J. December 18, 1917 – July 2, 1988) was an American jump blues, jazz, bebop and R&B alto saxophonist and blues shouter. He was nicknamed Cleanhead after an incident in which his hair was accidentally destroyed by lye contained in a hair straightening product. Music critic Robert Christgau has called Vinson "one of the cleanest-and nastiest-blues voices you'll ever hear.

Eddie Cleanhead Vinson died on July of 1988. Kidney Stew Is Fine by Nic Jones.

That’s why Eddie ‘Cleanhead’ Vinson decided to use it on his hair. Trouble is, it’s so strong that it’s also the active ingredient in drain cleaners and is now banned in many countries as a hair product, as Vinson found out to his peril. Although he could no longer style his hair, he was an advanced stylist on the sax, taking jump blues and jazz and adding a distinctive vocal delivery (possibly learnt from his friend, Big Bill Broonzy). His jazz connections are impeccable. The album is infused with humour, If it wasn’t for you women, he shouts in a strong blues delivery of the first track, Cleanhead Blues, I’d still have my curly locks today. This is a laugh out loud song. He continues, But I’ve been hugged, kissed and petted till all my hair was rubbed away.
