Art Pepper, Art Pepper Quintet. The Return of Art Pepper: The Complete Art Pepper Aladdin Recordings. These are titled The Return of Art Pepper, since they were recorded shortly after he completed a jail sentence in 1956. As a result, Pepper's chops are a little rusty, but you can hear that he still has a passion for playing, and he does improve over the course of these tracks. For serious Pepper fans, it's worth a listen, but for less dedicated fans, there are better places to become acquainted with his work.

The Return of Art Pepper is an album by saxophonist Art Pepper featuring sessions from 1956 recorded for the Jazz: West label after his release from prison. The album was rereleased on CD on Blue Note Records with bonus tracks as The Return of Art Pepper: The Complete Art Pepper Aladdin Recordings Volume 1 in 1988

Arthur Edward Pepper Jr. (September 1, 1925 – June 15, 1982) was an American alto saxophonist and very occasional tenor saxophonist and clarinetist. A longtime figure in West Coast jazz, Pepper came to prominence in Stan Kenton's big band. He was known for his emotionally charged performances and several stylistic shifts throughout his career, and was described by critic Scott Yanow as "the world's great altoist" at the time of his death.

Album · 1988 · 15 Songs. Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section (Remastered).

These small-group sessions, presumably all from 1956, are culled in small part from the Blue Note collection Early Art, with more from the Tampa/V. Galaxy release Art Pepper Quartet. It's a substantial, though far from comprehensive, collection of the bebop alto saxophonist's work in his heyday, before heroin addiction took him off the scene.

The album "Return of Art Pepper" can be recommended primarily for the playing of trumpeter Jack Sheldon, who had a personal, inimitable tone and technique no less impressive than the same of Carl Perkins. This album, unfortunately, does not include Carl Perkins. But the recorded sound is also better. This one can be recommended not for the presence of Carl Perkins (Russ Freeman is a gifted but far less brilliant, creative pianist), but the utterly remarkable, facile, clean and articulate playing of the sadly underrated Jack Sheldon
