Absurd Reality’ which was released in 1993 is first on this split and it’s marvellous. It’s Pungent Stench with dynamics, Dead without the gore, it’s catchiness is comparable only to the brilliant band One Step Beyond that took birth many years later in Australia, showcased on the album ‘Life Imitates Art’. I’m stunned at how simple yet layered the album is, taking various elements and executing it in the more effective manner possibly, tossing it with some of the best leads I’ve heard and individualistic ones too in this style. Flagging Water’ was released as a demo, just like ‘Absurd Reality’ but a year before. It’s more conventional comparatively but not without its standout parts, which makes this band really. Personally I’m tired of seeing second-rate reissues of bands that didn’t need to be so hyped 20 years later – yes, it’s old school, but what about the originality?
