Elliott Smith - Either/Or. Elliott Smith is arguably the best solo Acoustic Alternative artist of the last 10 years. What seperates Elliott from his peers (Damien Rice, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake etc) is his extremely obvious Beatles and Beach Boys influence. Elliot could sing some pretty high notes and his harmonies were great. He played acoustic guitar very well, and there was just something about his voice.

It contains twelve songs which were recorded from 1995 to 1996 at several locations: Joanna Bolme’s house, Smith’s own house, Undercover, In. Laundry Rules Recording, and Heatmiser House – all in Portland, Oregon as well as The Shop in Arcata, California. The title of the album derives from the Søren Kierkegaard book of the same name, reflecting Smith’s interest in philosophy, which he studied at Hampshire College in Massachusetts

Elliott Smith's third album sees his one-man show getting a little more ambitious. While he still plays all the instruments himself, he plays more of them. Several of the songs mimic the melody mastery of pop bands from 1960s.
