Bootsy, Phelps And Gary - "Together In Heaven pt. 1"/"Together In Heaven pt. 2" (Philmore Sound 740536) (7") William "Bootsy" Collins, Phelps "Catfish" Collins, Frank "Kash" Waddy, and Gary "Mudbone" Cooper (7"). While this rock/funk differentiation is what normally separated Funkadelic from Parliament, the bands consisted of many of the same members and performed live on tour together. Hence, the two groups are often described under the one moniker c. P-Funk recordings have been 'extensively' sampled in rap and hip-hop music, especially by Dr. Dre and other West Coast acts, beginning in the late 1980s and being particularly associated with the G-funk style of rap.
The group's 1978 album Bootsy? Player of the Year reached the top of the R&B album chart and spawned the R&B single "Bootzilla". Bootsy's New Rubber Band formed in 1994, releasing Blasters of the Universe and also put forth the following live release "Keepin' dah Funk Alive 4-1995", recorded over two nights in Tokyo. Collins performing in Cologne, Germany, in 1998. In June 2007, Collins, along with Phelps Collins, Clyde Stubblefield, John "Jabo" Starks, and Bernie Worrell, participated in the recording of the soundtrack for the movie Superbad. In December of that year they (sans Worrell) went on to perform the first tribute concert remembering James Brown.

Syd Nathan holding a King record. William "Bootsy" Collins was raised in Cincinnati Ohio. As a kid he and his brother, Phelps, "Catfish" Collins used to hang out at Syd Nathan’s King Records. Sydney Nathan started out in 1940 when he opened Syd's Record Shop, which mostly sold used juke box records. Most of his clientele were poor people that grew up in the South, but immigrated to Cincinnati to work in factories. The King Record Pressing Plant. By 1943 Nathan had established King Records with the intent of recording Hillbilly music to stock his juke boxes.
Doing Made In Heaven was like assembling a jigsaw puzzle. But I wouldn't have put my seal of approval on it if I hadn't thought it was up to standard. The others worked discontinuously between 1993 and 1995, piecing together the album from scraps of material discarded over the years. No songs survive from the 1970s, though a plethora of unreleased material would have worked nicely; it's obvious that the band weren't going for a posthumous compilation, a la Led Zeppelin's Coda, but were going for a cohesive album. Fans have hoped for a follow-up album of sorts, though Brian was hesitant to go down a similar path, noting that the posthumous sessions were particularly emotional and difficult.
