Just picked up the 180g reissue. Sounds fantastic, all instrumentation really shines. Responder Notifique-me 1 Helpful. This is a great album but my sealed copy was incredibly warped. It's like watching waves in the ocean. Amazingly it plays fine.

The clones get up and do their thing throughout, and if it's not The Wall, then that's all to its benefit. The immediate downside of Clones is that it's a fairly one-note record - every groove can just about be exchanged for any other one, unlike the wider variety apparent on other releases. Given Clinton and company's sheer work rate, something likely had to give and this is one of the stress points. There are a couple of stronger songs - "I've Been Watching You (Move Your Sexy Body)" is classic slow jam territory.

This album is the followup to the brilliant Mothership Connection, which is an absolute classic. In concept The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein stays on the same path as the former (Dr. Funkenstein, Starchild’s ally, is introduced, and we get to know that the pyramids contain all the secrets of the Funk), but in musical terms the album tries to be a little more commercial. You might say; less nasty. Don’t let that scare you because this album is still classic Parliament. The grooves are tight and the singing is the most soulful I’ve ever heard (thanks to Glen Goins)

Sample this album Artist (Sample). The mid-tempo groove of I've Been Watching You (Move Your Sexy Body) sets up a great finale, Funkin' For You. The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein is the complete package of legendary P-Funk characters and solid lyrics, with a twist in production that makes it one of the finest Parliament releases ever. 3 people found this helpful.

So in short, Parliament wants you to get silly and dance your ass off to their funky rhythms. It’s a rather simple idea and maybe to some people it’s too simple for The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein to really be considered concept album. Concept album or not, their method works really well and is fairly unique and influential giving their leader, George Clinton, the well deserved title of King of Funk (or Dr. Funkenstein as they call i. It’s well thought out party music that’s fun, strange, and tries to loosely follow a story about alien clones. Who could ask for more"

As the tipping point to more P-Funk errata, The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein introduces disco boogie with the jaunty opening notes of "Do That Stuff" and the stride-piano rhythm above "Getten' to Know Yo. "We love to funk you Funkenstein, your funk is the best," shout the "Afro-nauts" over the pimp-strolling groove of "Dr. Funkenstein
