Blow by Blow is the second solo album by British guitarist Jeff Beck, released on Epic Records in 1975, and recorded in October 1974. It was an instrumental album that peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA. After the dissolution of the power trio Beck, Bogert & Appice (BBA) in spring 1974, Beck took time for session work with other groups.

But in the case of legendary guitarist Jeff Beck, it’s applicable to virtually every album he’s ever released, but especially Blow by Blow, which came out in March 1975. Within the span of a few, eventful months leading up to the LP's recording in October 1974, Beck had dissolved his widely acclaimed power trio with bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice, and then auditioned with the Rolling Stones before deducing this was not the right job for him. Nevertheless, Beck could have easily parlayed his considerable reputation into another best-selling rock-based project. To help him achieve this, he recruited former Jeff Beck Group henchman Max Middleton to collaborate on songs and play keyboards, in-demand session bassist Phil Chen, drummer Richard Bailey, and, based on his recent work with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, iconic Beatles producer George Martin.

Blow by Blow served as a new creative peak for Beck and is, to date, his most commercially successful release. He gained fame with the Yardbirds before leaving to start the Jeff Beck Group which featured a young Rod Stewart. The album "Truth" is considered a landmark late 60's power-blues record that rivals Led Zeppelin's debut album on some levels. But, Beck's career has been a hallmark of flash over substance with one notable exception; "Blow by Blow".
