Exposure is the debut solo album by guitarist and composer Robert Fripp. Unique among Fripp solo projects for its focus on the pop song format, it grew out of his previous collaborations with David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, and Daryl Hall, and the latter two singers appear on the album. Released in 1979, it peaked at No. 79 on the Billboard Album Chart. Most of the lyrics were provided by the poet and lyricist Joanna Walton, who was later killed on Pan Am Flight 103.

Robert Fripp: Exposure by John Kelman, published on June 18, 2006. When King Crimson Robert Fripp disbanded the group in 1974, it seemed as though he'd grown tired of being its de facto leader. But he remained active, performing with artists as diverse as Brian Eno, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates and Blondie. While listeners who'd lost touch with him after King Crimson were undoubtedly shocked, those who continued following him were not at all surprised when his first solo album, Exposure, was released in 1979.

Robert Fripp's solo debut, originally released in 1979, Exposure is not only an important release historically in terms of influencing much music to come, including post-punk popular groups of today, it also is a who's who of guest musicians from Daryl Hall to Peter Gabriel, Peter Hammill, Terre Roche, Brian Eno, Tony Levin, Phil Collins, Narada Michael Walden, Jerry Marotta . It's just not as good. Fripp hints at acknowledging that in the liner notes when he observes that Mottola's stubbornness caused him to take the album in a different direction, with the results as we know them, and that fans can reassemble the familiar album through programming regardless. This assertion isn't true, by the way - that we can put back together the 1985 album he decided not to reissue here - because he leaves off the 1985 Hammill version of Chicago, which was a different vocal take to the 1979 mix.

Conceived as the third part of an MOR trilogy that included Peter Gabriel's second album and Daryl Hall's Sacred Songs, Exposure is concerned with a marketplace that Fripp saw as hostile to experimentation and hungry for product. Strangely, then, Exposure is one of his most varied and successful rock albums, offering a broad selection of styles

Exposure" is a rock music solo album by guitarist Robert Fripp, best-known as the only constant member of the progressive rock band King Crimson. Released in 1979, it peaked at on the "Billboard" Album Chart. Exposure" consists of compositions embracing hard rock, ambient music, ballads, and "musique concrète", and includes contributions from a variety of recording artists. Fripp instead used only two Hall vocals on his album, substituting Peter Hammill and Terre Roche in various places. The trilogy did not work out quite as intended, although all three albums eventually appeared in the marketplace. The songs "Urban Landscape" and "I May Not Have Had Enough of Me But I've Had Enough of You" appear on the Hall album as well, the latter entitled "NYCNY" with different lyrics written by Hall. The Gabriel record also features a version of "Exposure.
