Shinin' On is the eighth studio album by American rock band Grand Funk Railroad. Although not as successful as its predecessor, We're an American Band (1973), it peaked at in the US and was certified gold, and its first single, a cover of "The Loco-Motion" topped the .

Grand Funk Railroad, sometimes shortened as Grand Funk, is an American rock band popular during the 1970s, when they toured extensively and played to packed arenas worldwide. David Fricke of Rolling Stone magazine once said, "You cannot talk about rock in the 1970s without talking about Grand Funk Railroad!" Known for their crowd-pleasing arena rock style, the band was well-regarded by audiences despite a relative lack of critical acclaim.

Brewer: "The Shinin' On album was the second album Todd (Rundgren) did. It was the first record we had done at our own studio in Michigan. We'd been working on building this place for a couple of years and we finally got the thing done and recorded that album there. We mixed it in New York, but we recorded the whole thing there. It was a fun project It reached on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart. The week that "Shinin' On" entered the Top 100 their preceding charted record, "The Loco-Motion", was at (ten weeks earlier on April 28th, 1974, "The Loco-Motion" had peaked at for two weeks).
