CARLOS MALCOLM & HIS AFRO JAMAICAN RHYTHMS - EARTHMAN.

This includes Carlos Malcolm & His Afro-Jamaican Rhythms. The Panamanian-born Malcolm first came to prominence in 1959, when he was hired as the band arranger for the Jamaican Broadcasting Corporation. An equally talented composer and skilled trombonist, Malcolm formed the Afro-Jamaican Rhythms in 1962, and set about thrilling Kingstonian audiences with their unique take on ska, easily grabbing the Best Band award from the island's national Daily Gleaner newspaper. Ska-Mania was the group's second album, overseen by Malcolm himself, and engineered by Graeme Goodall. A phenomenal album from one of the island's greatest groups, one that has remained in the shadows for far too long.

Talk about Carlos Malcolm And His Afro-Jamaican Rhythms - Ska-Mania: The Sound Of The Soil

I would like to know where the date of 1962 came from, because there is no way this album is that early. I would estimate 1965. Does anyone have any firm information on this?
GAZANIK
According to Dr. Buster Dynamite's liner notes on Carlos Malcolm's The Royal Ska compilation this LP was released in 1964, which seems to be supported by Malcolm's statements in an interview partially excerpted in those notes.

My answer would be to simply listen to the music. Ska from 1962 does not sound like this, as evidenced by hundreds of issues on Jamaican and UK 45s that bear clear evidence of the dates of issue. I will ask the question on a more authoritative forum, see what the proper experts there come up with, and comment back.

Funkenskankenland I would like to know where the date of 1962 came from, because there is no way this album is that early. I would estimate 1965. Does anyone have any firm information on this? From my understanding, 1962 is accurate. What do you think otherwise?
