Antonín Dvorák (1841 - 1904) Cello Concerto In B Minor, O. 04 02. Dvořák: Cello Concerto - 1. Allegro 14:28 03. Dvořák: Cello Concerto - 2. Adagio 10:51 04. Dvořák: Cello Concerto - 3. Finale 12:05. Richard Strauss (1864 - 1949) Don Quixote, Op. 35, TrV 184 05. Strauss: Don Quixote - Introduction 6:15 06. Strauss: Don Quixote - Theme. In this pair of performances of Dvorák's Cello Concerto and Strauss' Don Quixote, Maisky is accompanied by Zubin Mehta, perhaps the most tasteless conductor alive, and the result is possibly the worst recording Maisky has ever made. To say that Mehta brings out the worst in Maisky is to understate the case: Mehta abets, encourages, indulgences, and inflates all Maisky's lowest instincts. Tempos change from too frenetic to too lethargic without reason. Dynamics change from far too loud to far too soft without reason.

Allegro Antonín Dvorák; Mischa Maisky; Berliner Philharmoniker; Zubin Mehta. 3. II. Adagio ma non troppo Antonín Dvorák; Mischa Maisky; Berliner Philharmoniker; Zubin Mehta. 4. III. Don Quixote, der Ritter von der traurigen Gestalt Richard Strauss; Mischa Maisky; Berliner Philharmoniker; Zubin Mehta. Maisky joins Zubin Mehta and the Berliner Philharmoniker on Dvořák's landmark Cello Concerto and Strauss's epic tone poem Don Quixote, two showcases for Maisky's instrument captured in sound described as "luminous" by Fanfare. 96 kHz, 24-bit PCM – DG CD Studio Masters.
