Imagine is the second studio album by John Lennon after his departure from the Beatles. Recorded and released in 1971, the album's musical arrangements are more elaborate compared to the basic, small-group arrangements of his first album, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. Imagine is the most popular of Lennon's solo albums and the title track is considered by many to be one of Lennon's finest songs. In 2012, the album was voted 80th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

I got the blues from my baby left me by the San Francisco Bay, The ocean liner's gone so far away. Didn't mean to treat her so bad, she was the best girl I everhave had, She said goodbye, I can take a cry, I want to lay down and die. I ain't got a nickel and I ain't got a lousy dime. If she don't come back, I think I'm going to lose my mind

John Lennon's second solo album was his greatest commercial success. He tempered some of the more abrasive elements of its predecessor, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, offering instead a more conventional pop collection that contains some of his best-loved songs. During the May sessions the musicians also recorded an unreleased cover version of San Francisco Bay Blues, plus four songs by Yoko Ono: Mind Holes, Mind Train, Midsummer New York, and Mrs Lennon. The songs were included on her 1971 album Fly, released as a counterpart to Imagine but, unlike her Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band release before it, with a quite separate identity to Lennon's album. Lennon and Ono had been documenting their private and public appearances as audio or filmic records since 1968.

Grateful Dead: Live (Fillmore West) (a WCF copy, 2001/2); ‘SAN FRANCISCO 1’ (TMOQ1: 71058, TMOQ2: 2805). Goodbye and thank you. GRATEFUL DEAD Featuring NEW RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE ‘ACOUSTIC DEAD’ (a WCF original, + ‘THE COWBOY’S DEAD!’ (?, 803).

After the harrowing Plastic Ono Band, John Lennon returned to calmer, more conventional territory with Imagine. While the album had a softer surface, it was only marginally less confessional than its predecessor. Underneath the sweet strings of "Jealous Guy" lies a broken and scared man, the jaunty "Crippled Inside" is a mocking assault at an acquaintance, and "Imagine" is a paean for peace in a world with no gods, possessions, or classes, where everyone is equal.

John Lennon left his then-wife and son while Julian was very young, and he was never as close with his first son as he was with his second son Sean and second wife Yoko Ono. In an interview, Julian did not confirm or deny abuse claims, but he called his father a hypocrite, stating, Dad could talk about peace and love out loud to the world but he could never show it to the people who supposedly meant the most to him: his wife and so. The truth is, I do love John Lennon. I don’t know who I would be - what my taste in music and art would be like - if not for the Beatles and Lennon himself. I can’t figure out how to extricate myself from that love, if it’s even possible to stop from singing along to Watching the Wheels, Imagine, or frankly every song off Abbey Road or the White Album.
